RIP Fr. Henry Mair

1/28/2010

On January 28, 2010, Fr. Henry Mair died suddenly and the Church lost a simply good and truly holy servant. Father Henry was a Franciscan Friar of the Atonement and worked with God’s people in an unlikely place: the shopping mall. Tucked behind Brockton’s Westgate Mall is the Chapel of Our Savior where passersby can stop and pray in the chapel, attend Mass, go to confession, browse through the gift shop, or chat with one of the Friars.  Father Henry was a spiritual director, confessor and good friend to many, including Father Reed of CatholicTV.

Father Henry was beloved by the young people at Stoughton Life Teen. Over the past few years he celebrated Mass with them often, attended several of their Life Nights and helped out on many retreats. He was energized by the faith of these young people and prayed constantly for the success and growth of Life Teen in Stoughton.

Last year, Father Henry graciously appeared on Going My Way with Father Chris Hickey and Father Paul Rouse.  We offer this episode to you again so that we can all remember the smile and wit of this very good priest and inspiring man.

Please pray that the Lord would welcome Father Henry Mair into His heavenly kingdom.  May the vision of God’s face be his eternal joy and a loving reward for all his simple kindness and service to the Church.
