A new three-part program explaining the revised Roman Missal is available at CatholicTV.com/Missal. The program is meant for priests and aims to teach priests about the revised Roman Missal.
This first stage begins with the preparation for the implementation of the Roman Missal. The theme of “ New Words: A Deeper Meaning, but the Same Mass” sets the tone for understanding the need for the change at this time. These are the first revisions since 1975.
The Roman Missal, Third Edition, the ritual text containing prayers and instructions for the celebration of the Mass, has been approved by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. The complete text of the Roman Missal is still undergoing final editing by Vatican officials. It is expected to be forwarded to Conferences of Bishops later this spring, at which time it will be prepared for publication. During this interim period, diocesan leaders, clergy, liturgical coordinators and others involved with the celebration of the liturgy are preparing for the implementation of the revised translation.
These videos are presented as background for the implementation of the new translation of the third edition of the Roman Missal.
This online program is viewable now at CatholicTV.com and is called “2011 New Roman Missal”. It is broken down into three different hour-long sessions. The themes are as follows:
- What’s New in the New Roman Missal
- A New Translation: Why and How?
- A Higher Register: Translation and Proclamation
This symposium for priests was designed to provide an understanding of the origins of the third edition of the Missale Romanum and the translation principles and process followed for its completion. In these sessions, Monsignor James P. Moroney explains the “whys” and the “hows” of the revised missal. He is a faculty member of Saint John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts and serves as Executive Secretary to the Vox Clara Commission. A consultant to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Monsignor Moroney is a priest of the Diocese of Worcester and Rector of Saint Paul’s Cathedral in Worcester, Massachusetts.
